On the morning of 20 May, the “Contribute to the 14th Five-Year Plan, Forge Ahead on a New Journey” Nantong 2024 Leading Labor and Skills Competition and the Nantong Shipbuilding and Offshore Engineering “National Heavy Equipment” Industrial Cluster Labor Competition officially opened at Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries Qidong Marine Engineering Co., Ltd. Those attending the event included Ge Yuqin, Deputy Director of the Standing Committee of the Nantong Municipal People’s Congress and Chairman of the Nantong Municipal Federation of Trade Unions; Wang Cheng, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Party Committee and Chairman of the Trade Union of Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries; Zhang Zi, Director of the Labor and Economic Work Department of the Jiangsu Provincial Federation of Trade Unions; and Cai Yi, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Qidong Municipal Committee and Mayor of Qidong. Our company was invited to attend as an organizing and implementing unit of one of the ten major key projects of the Nantong 2024 Leading Labor and Skills Competition.
Ge Yuqin, Deputy Director of the Standing Committee of the Nantong Municipal People’s Congress and Chairman of the Nantong Municipal Federation of Trade Unions, said in her speech that Nantong lies at the confluence of the river and the sea, and that the shipbuilding and offshore engineering industry is the city’s calling card and landmark industry. Organizing the “National Heavy Equipment” industrial cluster labor competition in shipbuilding and offshore engineering carries important demonstrative significance for setting off a new upsurge of labor competition among the city’s workers and employees and for driving the formation of new quality productive forces. Trade unions at all levels across the city should focus on the central overall situation, give full play to the engine role of labor competitions, and treat the advancement of project construction as solid support for high-quality development, empowering through competition and, by means of competition, anchoring priorities, highlighting innovation and boosting morale. All participating departments and units across the city should plan from an overall perspective and organize meticulously to ensure that the labor competition is carried out in a solid and enthusiastic manner and achieves real results. The city’s workers and employees should unite and strive hard in high-quality development, take the lead and press forward, act proactively in serving the city’s overall interests and demonstrate their sense of responsibility, giving full play to the role of the working class as the main force and to the exemplary and leading role of Party member pioneers and model workers, and making new and greater contributions to Nantong’s efforts to accelerate the development of new quality productive forces and build itself into an important growth pole for the province’s high-quality development.
At the meeting, relevant leaders presented flags to the representatives of the participating units in the Nantong Shipbuilding and Offshore Engineering “National Heavy Equipment” Industrial Cluster Labor Competition of the 2024 Jiangsu Provincial Leading Labor Competition, and to the representatives of the organizing and implementing units of the ten leading labor competitions of Nantong in 2024.
During the event, participants watched a video on the Nantong Shipbuilding and Offshore Engineering “National Heavy Equipment” Industrial Cluster Labor Competition project, went to the outfitting wharf to observe the “Zhenhua Qidong Marine Engineering · Craftsman Cup” gantry crane skills demonstration, and toured projects under construction at CCCC Shanghai Waterway Bureau, including the trailing suction hopper dredger with a hopper capacity of 15,000 cubic meters powered by clean-energy LNG.
It was noted that the 2024 city-wide leading labor and skills competition, themed on innovation, excellence and efficiency and centered on the “five comparisons and one creation” initiative, is intended to build a good “stage” for the growth and development of industrial workers, mobilize their enthusiasm, creativity and passion for work, encourage them to make contributions and achieve success in their posts and to complete all tasks with high quality, high standards and high efficiency, so that their efforts are more outstanding, their hard work brings more tangible benefits and their achievements earn them more recognition, and to train and bring up a contingent of high-quality knowledge-based, skilled and innovative industrial workers who will contribute to Nantong’s high-quality development.
